Trends to the foodservice industry are what peanut butter is to jelly – they go deliciously hand-in-hand. In March 2015, the Restaurants Canada Show welcomed foodservice professionals from across the country to Toronto’s Direct Energy Centre, and delivered insights into culinary trends and innovations that are shaping the industry.
A number of new products were introduced, including new tea offerings, low-calorie and gluten-free pasta, vegan-friendly creams, higher-end finger foods, and new yogurt innovations. The food industry is also continuing to celebrate the popularity of Asian flavours.
What does all of this have to do with peanuts, you ask? Many of the new products displayed and food trends discussed at the show all tie in with peanut products: peanuts are gluten-free, vegan-friendly, full of healthy fats, pair very well with Asian flavours and contain no artificial ingredients. This just goes to show how one tiny, yet powerful, nut can influence a major part of the food world.
